Dental Bonding and Contouring

Dental bonding and contouring is a procedure that can help to restore chipped or decaying teeth, discoloration, staining, fractures, etc.

Overview

Sometimes, accidents happen. You could take a bad step, trip, and chip your teeth. Your tooth can also become discolored from an illness or medication. Board-certified dentist Dr. Brian Wong performs bonding and contouring to correct certain cosmetic flaws at our office in Frisco, TX. A quick, effective treatment, bonding and contouring uses non-BPA composite resin (also used for tooth-colored fillings) to cover discoloration, reduce gaps in your teeth, lengthen a tooth, and even improve a tooth’s shape. Dr. Wong provides this treatment for tooth decay, chips in the teeth, fractures, discoloration, staining, and congenital malformation. For an effective treatment to enhance your teeth, make an appointment for more information about bonding and contouring treatments at Brian Wong D.D.S. P.A. (formerly Stonebriar Dental).

Best Candidates

Cosmetic bonding and contouring may improve chips, cracks, gaps, tooth length, discoloration, and other minor cosmetic flaws. Dental bonding and contouring is a more affordable cosmetic treatments and can often be completed in one appointment. It does not require preparations like crowns or veneers, but it is not as strong and generally does not last as many years. Dental bonding and contouring is good for small issues, but if you require larger improvements, a different restorative or cosmetic treatment may be considered. At your appointment, one of our experienced dentists will understand your goals and then discuss your treatment options.

What to Expect

Bonding and contouring is complete, generally in a single appointment, in our office in Frisco, TX. You don’t need anesthesia; however, sedation methods may be reviewed with your dentist at your appointment for problems like anxiety or a strong gag reflex. As soon as you’re comfortable, your dentist will apply the bonding material to the desired teeth aided by one of their team members. The resin will be set with more layers added, as needed. After the layers of composite resin are done, your dentist will shape and smooth the filling material and your natural enamel for a beautiful appearance.

Follow-Up

After you’ve had bonding and contouring, it’s important to not consume staining food and beverages (such as tobacco, coffee, and tea) for 48 hours. The composite resin can stain and chip, so do not bite hard objects like hard candy, pens, and fingernails, and clean your teeth right after eating. Bonded and contoured teeth need to be cared for like natural teeth with daily flossing and brushing. Bi-annual cleanings at Brian Wong D.D.S. P.A. can help to polish away stains from the bonding material. With ideal care, bonding and contouring may remain for as many ten years. At your dental examination, your dentist can help you determine if your cosmetic bonding and contouring should be done again to refresh your appearance.

Insurance Coverage

Bonding and contouring is an aesthetic treatment, so it’s not usually paid for by your dental insurance. Our team can talk to your dental insurance company to double check if it is covered; however, you will probably need to pay for the cost of the treatment on your own. In your consult, we will talk about your estimated costs and payment methods we take at Brian Wong D.D.S. P.A.
